BASICALLY - ITS ALL FROM MODCLOTH

Okay, so this post is like nearly four days late. Whoops. The evils of Black Friday shopping distracted me from posting this on the day of and after. As for the rest of the weekend, I honestly have no excuse other than I forgot. Anyways! About Thanksgiving. It's not exactly my favorite holiday. I'd much rather be thinking about Christmas. But I always enjoy the reminder to be thankful for the people in my life who care about me. I hope you all had a nice Thursday, even if you don't celebrate it!

#ootd | I'm in New York!

Sorry for my absence recently, it's been a whirlwind this month getting ready for my trip to New York and then actually traveling all the way out here. I haven't been away from home by myself in ... well ever, so this has definitely been an adventure. I was so determined to film a fall lookbook and vlog, but as soon as I got out here I found myself forgetting entirely about that. I just wanted to really be in the moment and experience everything without having to worry about documenting it all. I spent an amazing weekend in Brooklyn with my friend Megan, we did some shopping and a lot of eating. I also got to visit Dia & Co and style two tulle skirts for their instagram (which you can check out here). Then I got on a train for seven freaking hours to upstate New York to stay with my BFF for the rest of the week.

It's been an amazing trip and while I'm kind of bummed that I didn't vlog and take all the pictures I said I was going to, I'm really glad to have been living in the moment.

There is no reason for this post other than I thought my outfit looked cute so I wanted to document it. Hence the horrible title, whoops. It's better this way, I almost used "Feelin' Foxy".

#ootd | hey fall, stay awhile

I've lived in Southern California my whole life which definitely means that I've never experienced real fall before. We have like two seasons here - the gross, ridiculously hot time between August and November and then mild weather throughout the rest of the year. This year though, it's been raining since August and the weather is actually nice right now and it's still October! Needless to say, I am very confused. I had planned to do a super cute, still summery outfit post for my first #ootd on here this year, but then on Monday when I went to go take them, it was overcast! So I swapped out my pastels for a more fall appropriate color palette and took a trip out to South Park, one of my favorite neighborhoods in San Diego.

My friend and I got ice cream from Daily Scoops, perused a really cute vintage shop and saw so many dogs that we both nearly passed out from excitement. It felt like the perfect start to fall, fingers crossed that this weather sticks!

My Favorite Lipsticks for Fall

I'd like to preface this post with the fact that I am not exactly a beauty guru. I have my basic routine down to a science and it consists of all neutrals and very little variation. Like, sometimes, I wear gold eye shadow and that's if I'm feeling fancy.  So yes, my every day make-up is boring, predictable, most importantly easy

That being said, I fucking love lipstick. I think it's maybe my second most bought beauty product after blush. I will buy it in every color of the rainbow, I will buy a red lipstick even though I have one that's almost exactly like it, I will buy two of the same lipstick if I really like it. My make up bag in my purse consists solely of the lipsticks I've worn that week.

And my favorite season for lipstick is fall because fall is when everyone wears super dark vampy lips, which are more in my comfort zone than bright corals and pinks. I've complied this list of my favorites for this year, this is my first make up post, so I apologize for the weird lighting and whatnot. Also I could not take a close up of my lips without getting seriously wigged out, so I'm sorry if these are a little hard to see. I did some swatches on my arm!
(from left to right - Kat Von D liquid lipstick in Lolita, MAC Cherry lipliner w/ MAC RiRi Woo lipstick , MAC Vino lipliner w/ NYX matte lip creme in Copenhagen, Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipstick in Heathers, MAC Nightmoth lipiner with MAC Sin lipstick)
Kat Von D liquid lipstick in Lolita
I have a love/hate relationship with this one. On one hand, it's super long-wearing, doesn't do all the weird gross stuff that liquid lipsticks can do (I.E that weird pilling thing?? I hate that. Or when it fades in the center, that's super annoying), but on the other hand - the color hasn't remained consistent through out the time it's been in production and it sometimes makes my teeth look yellow. But it's the perfect muted color for an easy neutral lip! I also have the Studded Kiss Lipstick version of this and I really enjoy that one too, it's just not as long lasting.

MAC Cherry lipliner w/ MAC RiRi Woo lipstick
I love bright red lipstick and this has been my go to combination for that perfect pin up look for awhile now. I use RiRi Woo so sparingly because it's one of my favorites and I did not buy a back up for it. Ruby Woo is okay, just not as blue toned which I feel looks better on me.

NYX matte lip creme in Copenhagen w/ MAC Vino lipliner
NYX matte lip cremes are some of my favorite drug store lip products, they're easy to apply and decently long lasting. I like to add a lipliner most of the time so I can go longer without reapplying. Copenhagen is also a good dupe for MAC's Rebel lipstick!

Anastasia liquid lipstick in Heathers
This one kind of looks a lot like the last lipstick, whoops! They're totally different I swear! I was so excited when Anastasia came out with their line of liquid lipsticks. I had really loved limecrime's Wicked liquid lipstick, but I don't like the company and to be honest, the quality wasn't all that great either. When I saw Heathers I thought it looked so similar to Wicked that I bought it immediately. It's so good, the color is beautiful!  It wears better than Wicked too.

MAC Nightmoth lipliner w/ MAC Sin lipstick
I first found out about this lipliner/lipstick combination after I had found a picture on tumblr and did endless research to find out what lipstick it was. I figured out it was Sin, but at the time it was only available online for some reason? So dumb, you can totally buy it in stores now! Sin on it's own is more of a purple red, but with Nightmoth is becomes this perfect deep burgundy, verging on almost being super dark purple. It's definitely been a favorite for fall for a few years now, I feel so badass with it on.

Those are my top five at the moment, but I'm sure as the season goes on I'll find even more that I really like. What are your favorite lipsticks for fall? Let me know, I'd love to try them out!

Hey girl, where ya been?

I don't know if this post is necessary, since anyone who has been keeping up with this blog probably follows me on social media or my Youtube channel, but I wanted to rehash what's been going on in my life for the past two years. Yes, two years, that's how long it's been, it's embarrassing, honestly.

So, to recap!

  • In early 2014, I got my first big girl job working as an office admin for a small company. This gave me a lot more reasons to buy pretty dresses. Let me tell you, there's no better excuse than "Oh this is perfect for work!' to buy something cute.
  • I went back to school. Kind of. This has been an ongoing struggle for me. I went back for a couple semesters, took a break, went back, took a break- and after the last break I just ended up working for a year and not doing much else. I'm planning to go back next year, fingers crossed that it sticks!
  • I bought a lot of new clothes and shoes. A lot
  • I hit 10K subscribers on YouTube, which is just insane. It was one of my hopes when I started my channel that I would reach that number one day, so seeing it made real is the coolest thing.
  • My best friend came to visit for our birthdays and we watched Avengers: Age of Ultron, something we had been planning since the first Avengers movie came out.
  • I went to the Modcloth IRL event in LA and had one of the most perfect weekends with my mom.
  • I discovered a profound love for Korean BBQ.
  • I lost two of my cats. My oldest cat just disappeared one day (I have convinced myself that she found a nice family to live with and that they spoil her rotten. Shhh, let me pretend.) My other cat Roger, who inspired my cat logo, was hit by a car a couple months ago.
  • I've went through a couple style transformations before I finally settled into what I feel like is my own unique personal style. I seem to be very into school teacher/librarian chic.
  • I got bangs! The above picture is from July but it's the most recent one I've taken where my bangs aren't all grown out and long. Putting "get a trim" on my to do list!

It hasn't really been an exciting two years, but I wanted to just give a little update. I'm really excited to post regularly on here, I've been planning out my blog posts for every Monday, Wednesday and Friday! Also, new videos are definitely in the making!

And we're back!

Hello? Is anyone still there?
If there is anyone out there still reading this blog - hello! I am super really excited to say that I am back in the blogging game! It's been almost two years since I last used this blog, which is kind of embarrassing to say the least. I've been relatively active over on my youtube channel, but making videos is hard work! There's so much time and effort that go into filming and editing one that I always end up with huge gaps between uploads. So to fill the gaps, I thought - hey remember that blog you used to have, why not start that up again?
And here we are! Thank you to Kaelah from thecluelessgirl for doing all the heavy lifting when it came to this blog redesign. I literally just made a pinterest mood board, it was great (sidenote: super into pinterest now!). I have a lot of things planned for this blog and my youtube channel, so I hope you'll stick along for the ride, I can't wait!
